I walk a path
between two hills,
pale gold with dry grass,
as a hare, majestic
black-tipped ears
pointing to the faraway sky,
bounds up a slope,
and I think of the candle
I will light this evening
in gratitude
for the richness of life.

Rich and peaceful. Lovely!
Robert, thank you very much.
The capture, Willow, of one of those moments that is at once simple and profound
and that leads to other thoughts and acts of goodness. Sadly, we don’t often enough appreciate the richness before us. i like this very much
Thanks, John, your comments are so appreciated–I think appreciating the richness around us, if and when we can remember, is one of the secrets of happiness. The hare actually IS a hare, but around here we call them jackrabbits, but somehow that wasn’t as poetic. When I go for a walk in a nearby nature preserve, it makes my day to see one.
Simple abundance. I like it.
(I went walking along a wooded trail on Sunday, my eyes watching the pebbles and gravel beneath my feet – and just missed stepping on a small snake. Wasn’t quite as grateful as I might have been at spotting a hare…) 🙂
🙂 Well, yes, snakes…. Glad you liked this one, Kate. I think enjoying nature is one of the secrets of happiness.
